Vila do Abraao |
It took me about 3.5 hours by bus and boat to get from Rio de Janeiro to Ilha Grande. I have heard SO much about this gorgeous island, and everybody said that I HAD to go there. So the only thing to do then, is to go there yourself and get your-own opinion. Lopes Mendes beach is actually rated "top 15 beaches in the world" online :) The problem was that everybody wanted to go there at this time. Tired after carnival, and just want to chill the last days before they went home (whereever that was)
On my first day on the island, i hooked up with Alessandro and Florian from my hostel for a hike to Lopes Mendes. It's about 2.5 hours of hiking. It was noon, and soooo hot, and up and down throughout the jungel we walked. On the hike u pass two other small and really nice beaches. It's worth hiking at least one way :)
You can also take a boat from the main pier to the last berach before Lopes Mendes, but u still have to hike about 20 mins.
Perfect stop for a beer! |
Lopes Mendes is in my opinion PARADISE! Or the perfect beach if u like. It's 1-2 km with pure white sand, crystalclear water and no boats. It's no resorts/hotels/hostels at this beach. And no-one annoys u at all time with selling u stuff u don't need. You are just surrounded by jungle, and no trash in sight. We ended up taking one of the last boats back to Vila do Abraao.
Obligatory beer at the beach!!! |
